Building Homes, Building Hope: Zurich Homes & Habitat for Humanity’s Blitz Build

There’s something profoundly moving about watching a foundation take shape—not just in construction, but in community. In 2007, Zurich Homes partnered with Habitat for Humanity for a weekend that became so much more than a build. It became a legacy.

Spearheaded by Stan Zuercher, founder of Zurich Homes, a dedicated team of volunteers—family, friends, and construction crews—came together on Iris Circle to complete Habitat for Humanity’s 36th home in just 48 hours. Known as a “blitz build,” this effort took the house from foundation to watertight in a single weekend.

More than 12 workers from various local construction companies contributed their skills. Wives, daughters, and friends kept everyone fueled, providing meals and support on-site. It was a full family affair, and the energy on the job site reflected the purpose behind the hammering and hauling: building a safe and lasting home for someone in need.

What made this build even more special? It was Habitat’s first Energy Star qualified home. With guidance from Isaac Zuercher—Stan’s son and co-founder of Zurich Homes—the team ensured that the home met the EPA’s strict energy efficiency standards, setting a new bar for affordable housing projects in the area.

The recipient of this effort, Brenda Cobb, couldn’t hold back her gratitude. As a grandmother caring for five grandchildren, she described her new home as a beacon of hope and a fresh start.

“She can’t wait to call this house the home of herself and the five grandchildren under her care,” the article reads.

At its core, this story reflects what Zurich Homes stands for: craftsmanship with heart, and a commitment to community. It’s a reminder that the best builds go beyond bricks—they create connection.
